Citizens Advice in East Yorkshire say significant numbers of people are going to them because they're struggling with their rent with some of them facing eviction.

They've told us they've been inundated with calls about increases in rent as well as rises in council tax.

Many are said to be on the verge of being homeless.

Helena Sinclair is from the Hull and East Yorkshire CAB.

She told us: "We are seeing people come to us and they say things like my landlord's been in touch."

We are seeing people who've had possession notices.

"They say if I can't afford this rent they'll evict me and look for a tenant who can."

"We're getting a lot of people come to us for help because they've had letters or contact from their landlord saying their rent is going to go up."

"We've got people who are struggling to pay rent they could afford but because other bills have gone up - it's become harder for them."

"There is usually capacity for rent to increase, people get a small amount of notice but usually it's really difficult to find another property."

"There's not much private rental property in our area especially in the East Riding and affordability of that is really high."
