East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire firefighters join road safety campaign

Firefighters in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are supporting a new road safety campaign, to try to reduce the number of traffic collisions.

Humberside Fire and Rescue is joining the national Project EDWARD - which stands for 'Every Day Without A Road Death'.

It's being backed by the government, emergency services and highways agencies, among others.

Kevin Freer is from the Fire Service's Road Safety Team and says 90 per cent of all collisions are down to driver-error.

He also says a large part of that is using a mobile phone and while it's not illegal to use one hands-free, they're suggesting you don't.

Kevin said:

"It's not breaking the law to use one, but they're still a massive distraction and it has been shown that they were in use during many collisions.

So what we're advocating is that you don't use your phone AT ALL."
