East Riding of Yorkshire Council says they are not aware of any confirmed cases of monkeypox.

It follows earlier claims that there was one case in the Humber area.

This morning, an East Riding health boss said no doubt monkeypox will spread to the area but it is not as bad as Covid-19 and urged people to be on the look out for symptoms.

Now, a spokesperson from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Following further investigation regarding monkeypox, we wish to clarify that, as of today, we are not aware of any confirmed cases in the area.

“We apologise for any confusion created by the information we shared earlier.

“However we would encourage people to be aware of the symptoms to look out for and to visit the UK Health Security Agency’s website for more information.”

A spokesperson for the UK Health Secruity Agency (UKHSA) said no cases of the virus had been confirmed in the region either.

An NHS Hull University Teaching Hospitals spokesperson also said they did not have any patients with the virus that they were treating currently.
