Drivers in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire urged to plan ahead of weekend journeys
Friday 20th December is expected to be the busiest of the year
Drivers planning Christmas getaways are being warned to expect long queues because of record traffic levels.
The AA predicted that Friday December 20 will be the busiest day on the roads during the festive period, with an estimated 23.7 million drivers planning a trip.
That is more than the busiest Christmas getaway day of any year since the AA began recording data in 2010.
Safer Roads Humber are advising drivers to plan ahead to avoid distruption. Ruth Gore is from there, she said:
"There'll be a lot of people travelling, probably places that they don't normally go or perhaps don't go very often, so they'll be going longer journeys. Christmas time can be a bit fraught. So what we're asking people is just to take a moment.
"At times when the roads are quieter, speed limit still apply. So make sure that you still stick safely and appropriately within the speed limit. Think about the weather, so make sure if it's quite windy at forecast over the next few days. So think about where you're going, how you're going to get there.
"A lot of people will be going over to the motorways in our area, which obviously for us, that's a journey just to get to in the first place. So plan your journey. Make sure that you know where you're going. Even look for an alternative route. If this roadworks on or there's an incident, think about where you're actually going and how are you're going to get there."
