A 60-year-old woman diver has died after an accident in Bridlington Bay.

Emergency services pulled her from the water yesterday afternoon.

The call for help from a dive boat came in just after half 2.30pm yesterday.

A coastguard search and rescue helicopter and the Flamborough Inshore Lifeboat were both sent to the scene after the crew fired three distress flares.

The woman was unconcious but breathing when rescuers got to her and she was airlifted to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Lucy Hicks of Humber Coastguard said:

"This is a very sad outcome and our thoughts are with the lady’s friends and all those who tried to help her."

We don't have any information at this stage as to what happened.

But another diver who was part of the group is being assessed and treated at the hospital.

It is understood this diver will spend time in a hyperbaric unit as a precaution.
