Discussions taking place to bring more jobs to East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire
It's thought there are major opportunities in renewable energy
Discussions are taking place seeking to create a significant number of jobs across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire in the emerging renewable energy sector.
Offshore Energies UK are in talks with local experts.
It's thought skills from the oil and gas sector can largely be applied to new technologies in the likes of the wind turbine industry.
Alix Thom is the workforce engagement and skills manager at Offshore Energies UK – she says they have a vision for the area:
"We're really fortunate, not just here but also in other parts of the country that the skills and capabilities and the technology that have been developed in other sectors, for example oil and gas, those skills and capabilities are all transferable to the emerging energy sectors."
"Not only will secure many jobs and a robust supply chain here in the region, it will become a world first and therefore we could see huge export potential of technology and people from this area."
"The first of three such events we're having where energy has a significant footprint is taking place."
"We're all agreed about the importance of collaboration and the need to shape our narrative going forward to reassure communities where the energy sector has had a footprint they're not being left behind."
