Two new coronavirus testing sites in Hull are looking for volunteers to help run them.

The sites have been opened to key workers who can't do their jobs from home, to help protect them from Covid-19.

They've been given access to rapid testing so that they can to work safely and confidently.

Now, Hull City Council and HEY Smile Foundation are asking for more people to help administer the tests.

Andy Barber, the charity’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said: “We’re delighted we can help recruit and train volunteers for the new lateral flow testing sites in Hull.

“More than 900 people have signed up to volunteer across Hull and the East Riding to play their part in meeting and greeting those either arriving for the vaccine or a lateral flow test.

“The focus is now specifically on Hull as the new lateral flow sites continue to see and test as many people as possible and we hope more come forward to help build on the success to date.”

Anyone who signs up to help will be given two hours training before going to work on site.

It's believed around a third of people who catch coronavirus don't show symptoms, and rapid testing could help detect cases we wouldn't otherwise know about.
