Rapid coronavirus testing in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire is going to begin once lockdown lifts.

It's part of the Tier 3 measures, which will see each region that is put under the toughest level of restrictions join a mass coronavirus testing programme.

There's already been successful trials in Liverpool, and the kits can turn results around in under an hour.

Public health leaders from across Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire have issued a statement saying "This will provide an extra tool in our toolkit which enables us to target the right test at the right people, in the right place, at the right time".

It adds: ""When the lateral flow tests are deployed, we will be focusing on using these additional test kits to provide extra targeting of high-risk areas first, such as frontline teams."

Conversations are ongoing with the Department of Health to figure out how best to deploy these new tests.

But the armed forces could arrive on the streets of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire to help the health service cope.
