Humberside Police say a woman has been released after trying to remove her mother from a care home near to Hull last night.

A video, posted by former Coronation Street star Leandra Ashton, appeared on social media showing the woman in handcuffs in the back of a car.

In the two clips, Ms. Ashton, who lives in York, says they're removing the mother from the home because they haven't seen her for nine months.

She goes on to say that they're concerned about her deteriorating and that her mother is a registered nurse who could look after her.

Ms. Ashton admits that her family were faced with an "irrational response" after being told visits would stop at the care home her 97-year-old grandmother was in.

She's now calling for the Government to change the rules to make it easier for families to visit relatives in care homes and look after them.

Ms. Ashton said that she has tried to go through all the "official channels" and has written to MPs, but feels frustrated by the lack of response.

Humberside Police have confirmed a 73-year-old woman was arrested last night and release shortly afterwards.

In a statement, the force said “We understand that this is an emotional and difficult situation for all those involved. We sympathise with all families who are in this position and will continue to provide whatever support we can to both parties.”

Tony Stowell lost his mother, Antonia, after contracting Coronavirus in a care home earlier this year.

For the last three years he's been campaigning for families to be able to put CCTV cameras in relative’s rooms.

Tony recently met with health secretary Matt Hancock to discuss his campaign known as ‘Antonia’s Law.’ It proposes that families should have the right to install cameras at their cost to enable them to monitor their loved one and have peace of mind for their wellbeing.

Tony, 52 from Hull said: “If we can’t wake up as a nation now to see what’s going on than I don’t believe we’re ever going to. I wish I was there to help them fight the police. Looking back at my case now, I wish I did the same. Good on her, I wish everyone would do the same.”
