Contraflow removed from M62 Ouse Bridge ahead of national speed limit return
National Highways says it hopes to have the 70mph limit back in force by the end of next week
National Highways has revealed the national speed limit is set to return to part of the M62 in East Yorkshire next week.
A contraflow which has been in place on the Ouse Bridge has been lifted.
The westbound side is up to 50mph, but the eastbound carriageway remains at 30mph whilst traffic management is removed.
A National Highways spokesperson said:
"The contraflow arrangement for westbound traffic on the M62 Ouse Bridge was lifted last night (15 October). With it, the speed limit on that section has been increased from 30mph to 50mph. Two lanes are open on the westbound carriageway, with lane 3 and the hard shoulder remaining closed.
"The eastbound carriageway will continue to run with narrow lanes, with the speed limit remaining at 30mph while we continue to remove traffic management.
"We currently anticipate the eastbound carriageway to be running with two standard width lanes at a 50mph speed limit by the middle of next week, subject to weather conditions, with the hard shoulder and lane 3 remaining closed.
"Once this has taken place and the last sections of the traffic management are removed, we shall remove the 50mph restrictions on both carriageways and return to three lanes of traffic at the national speed limit in each direction. We currently expect this to take place by the end of next week (ending 27 October).
"Both hard shoulders will remain closed at this point to complete additional works at the outer verges and these closures will remain in place until early December. Overnight lane closures during this period will also be undertaken to enable these finalising works.
"We will share further updates on our M62 Ouse Bridge web page in due course. We would like to thank everyone once again for their patience."
