Children as young as three now going online
Parents in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are now calling for website owners to help better protect children.
Parents in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are calling for websites to help better protect kids as new research reveals children are using the internet before they can even read or write!
One in six toddlers as young as three are now active online.
That's according to a new report which also reveals 70% of parents are worried about what their child can access.
They're now urging websites to take more responsibilty and be forced to set up appropriate restrictions such as age filters.
Jane Hornby is from Yorkshire Netmums which supports parents. She thinks website owners and internet service providers do have a big role to play in keeping kids safe online:
"There should be some responsibility for websites as the age rating at the moment is voluntarily applied on to websites. If more website owners adhered to this then it would be a big help and it would also help Ineternet Service Providers to keep their child restrictions accurate aswell.
"We do often get questions from parents about how they can keep their children safe online. There are so many apps and games online that are aimed at pre-schoolers, it is how children play now to a certain extent. It's important for parents to keep up to date and help their children grow with the technology that is available to them.
"If we could have a more standard approach across websites, I think it would be helpful to everybody as all parents do have that concern. I think it is a joint responsibility between parents, websites and internet providers to make it as safe as we can for children."
