"Charlie Hedbo" To Go On Sale In Scunthorpe
A Scunthorpe man will be selling the latest edition of the Charlie Hebdo magazine this week.
A Scunthorpe shop owner has been telling Viking FM why he's decided to stock the latest edition of the Charlie Hebdo magazine.
Hundreds of copies of the "survivors" edition are to be brought to the UK following its publication today.
The title which was targetted in last week's terror attack in Paris features a picture of the Prophet Mohammed on the front.
Matthew Stephenson who owns the independent store thinks there'll be a strong response to it. He told Viking FM:
"The Charlie Hebdo magazine seems to have captured the imagination of the world and being a lover of satire and writing satirical stories myself, it's got me curious and I wanted to read the magazine and find out more about it so this is the way I can get hold of it.
"I was given the opportunity to have copies to sell in the store and the strange and ironic thing, maybe even satirical thing about it, is that I'm getting the magazine via a third party, from a friend of mine who happens to be a muslim.
"I hope people are just as interested in the story and the magazine as I am. I've been promised up to a hundred copies and I'm sure they'll sell. So anyone else who wants to see what the magazine stands for and is all about then they are entitled to buy it also. As far as I'm aware we are the only store in Scunthorpe and the surrounding area that will be stocking this magazine.
"I think it'll be very positively received because I do believe that people are just as interested and as curious as I am to find out what the magazine is all about, irrelevant of cartoons being based on Mohammed, we'd like to see more of the satire."
