Hull KR's Danny McGuire claims history could be written with victory at Wembley.
The assistant head coach has urged the squad to take note of how important the Challenge Cup final game is and what’s at stake.
The Robins take on Leigh Leopards at Wembley on Saturday (13 August).
They've not won the competition since 1980.
McGuire understands the gravity of these types of games - having won the domestic cup competition twice in his own career.
Both times came with Leeds Rhinos, and in 2015 their final triumph was against none other than Hull KR.
Having retired in 2019, Saturday will be the first time that McGuire is involved in a final without playing.
He says it's going to be a great game:
"We've got a real opportunity to write history - it's not going to be easy. Leigh are a good team - they've got some really good players and they're well coached. So it won't be easy - we need to play well and we need to win those crucial moments and give ourselves a good chance.
"The Challenge Cup is such a prestigious, historical competition - everyone loves being part of it. To be part of one of the biggest occasions in our sport is really special for the club and everyone is really excited to get going.
It's going to be a tough game - with Leigh favourites to win - with the Leopards having already beaten Hull KR twice in 2023.
Talking about Leigh, McGuire says it's going to be a tough game:
"I think it's good for the game that two clubs that haven't been in the final for a while. For Hull, it's 1980 when we last won the trophy and I'm not sure what it is for Leigh but I know it's a fair few years ago. Both teams are really well supported with loyal fan base - either way, it's going to be a good occasion."
