Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire MPs will meet with the government today to discuss plans for a new National College for Wind Energy to be built on the Humber Estuary.

The government's looking at where to develop a new renewable training facility and a bid for it to be set up in our region has already been submitted.

Local MPs will today meet two government ministers to discuss the proposals.

The meeting between the Business Minister, Nick Boles, Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Andrea Leadsom, will take place this morning.

Grimsby MP Melanie Onn says our region's leading the way in all types of green energy which makes the Humber the 'obvious' location for the National College for Wind Energy. She told Viking:

"Everything from solar, biomass, onshore wind and hopefully with that expanding young people in the town will have even more opportunities to access a wider range of these sorts of jobs.

"We have got six offshore wind farms that are running their operations and maintenance from Grimsby and there are another four in the pipeline. I want to see young people in our town having the opportunity to work in those industries, they are long-term and well-paid jobs.

"I think it is absolutely right that young people in our town get the first pick at having the right kind of training in an industry that is going to be on their doorstep and we have also got some fantastic training facilities in the area already."
