Calls For Asthma Sufferers To Always Carry Medication
That's the message from the parents of Cameron Good from Hull who died from asthma last year.
The parents of 10-year-old Cameron Good from Hull who died from asthma says 'people still don't take it seriously'.
Cameron's stepdad, Craig Salter, is telling people to always carry their medication with them.
It's as the number of children and young people hospitalised for asthma-related conditions tends to increase over the summer holidays.
Craig told Viking FM:
"It's so easy to be lackadaisical when it comes to asthma medication. It's not just about kids carrying their asthma pumps, it's also about the adults having asthma equipment with them if they take their kids out and it's also about being vigilant.
"It is the difference between life and death and you have to have the right tools in place to eb able to deal with it. You can never say oh we are only popping to the shops, it takes five minutes to kill somebody.
"It's to do with the higher amount of pollen and pollution and people also tend to be out longer with it being warmer. People also tend to run around more and go to more sporting establishments and there's a lot of fairs on too. There's a lot of laughing and giggling going on too as people are out having fun, and it's great to see kids laughing, but that can also induce asthma attacks. So every factor possible that can cause it, aoart from cold air, is there during the 6 weeks holidays and it's vital that extra care is taken.
"Whenever you go out you always make sure you have your mobile phone with you so why can't you make sure you've always got your asthma pump aswell, it's as simple as that. Bring it with you and always have it. If we can stop one more family going through what we are then we have won. Asthma is so underestimated and it's really sad. It's not a common cold, it's not the flu, it's an actual killer. We all understand the mechanisms of how asthma works and it should be up there and it should be treated with the respect it deserves."
Cameron's parents are currently raising funds to provide all local primary schools with free life-saving asthma equipment and also deliver advice and training to schools and sporting establishments.
