Bridlington Pride holds relaunch party ahead of main event in July
Organisers say there's no better time for tonight's party than during LGBT History Month
Bridlington Pride are holding a relaunch party tonight as work continues to hold its first event later this year.
It will be at The Lodge at 8pm with free entry with organisers saying there is no better time than LGBT History Month.
It is to celebrate Bridlington hopefully having its first Pride at the Spa in July this year after being postponed since 2020 due to the pandemic.
Tonight's party will have drag act The Funky Beavers.
Sarah Kemp, one of the group's co-chairs, said:
"We had quite a successful launch party in 2020 and we're going to relaunch it now to get interest and enthusiasm going for Bridlington Pride 2022 making history!"
Donna Walker, one of the group's co-chairs, said:
"I think we're all on the edges as to whether there's going to be any setbacks. I think we're all kind of edging on the side of caution because as we're exciting about it happening and we can see it coming together, there's always that in the back of your mind that it might happen again. but we're planning it as if it's going ahead.
"There's excitement and a lot of people are intrigued as well as to how it's going. We're holding a few meetings to make sure it's going ahead, informing businesses and services with what's going on but overall I think it's fair to say that people are excited and are asking to know more.
"Come along to the party. Enjoy yourselves, see what it's about and it's not just for the LGBT community it's also for our allies as well. Anyone who wants to come along and basically have a laugh at the drag act that we have lined up, and that should be a start of what's going to happen at the Pride event in July."

About Bridlington Pride
The Bridlington Pride team are holding its first Pride at The Bridlington Spa on Saturday 2nd July 2022. The main event will be held at the Bridlington Spa will include a main stage show, stalls, support groups, health fair, family room and hopes to shine a spotlight on Bridlington’s LGBTQIA+ support groups and community.
They have also been busy working with the new LGBTQIA+ youth group B.A.M. (Bridlington Alphabet Mafia) for those aged from 11 to 17 years old. The group had its first meeting in October 2021 and has subsequently met on the fourth Thursday of the month since. Funds are desperately needed to support the group’s activities, as B.A.M. is rapidly expanding and needs a new venue and more volunteers to run it bridlington.amafia@gmail.com
There are plans for the adults too with regular “LGBTea & Coffee” social events set to be organised, a Silver Pride group and a Parents Support Group linked to B.A.M.
