A new charity has started in Bridlington to help talented young people achieve their potential.

The Freeman 1st Foundation aims to provide financial and practical support to those in art, academia, business or sport sectors.

It is based in Bridlington but it is urging to people from across Yorkshire and the Humber aged 16 to 25 to apply for grants.

Stuart Sanderson, Co-founder and Trustee, said:

"Myself and the fellow Trustees we all grew up in Bridlington and we've had first hand experiences of living in seaside towns, so we thought by setting up the charity we can help unlock opportunities for talented young people to overcome any challenges and obstacles they might face, so they can then achieve their full potential.

"There was actually a House of Lords report in 2019 and they said that young people in coastal communities are 'being let down and left behind by a lack of employment opportunities resulting in low levels of aspiration', so we thought we could do something here and help young people develop their talents into careers and unlock opportunities for them.

"We plan to work with schools, colleges and businesses in the area to help identify people who would benefit from our support, so really we're just hoping to get application from young people with a talent so that we can assess their applications, it is means tested, to create more success stories for the area."
