Body found in North Yorkshire after Driffield murder manhunt

A murder investigation is underway in Driffield after a disturbance at a property on Friday evening (12th January).

Police were called to a house in Southburn following reports a man and woman had been seriously injured.

Both were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment where the man died on Saturday, he's been named by Humberside Police as 30 year old Shane Gilmer.

His family is being supported by specialist officers.

The woman's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police teams - including dog units - have spent the weekend searching for Anthony Lawrence (pictured) to establish the circumstances.

They've released the following statement about the discovery made in North Yorkshire...

DCI Stewart Miller said,

'We can confirm that at around 6pm this evening (Sunday 14 January) officers discovered the body of a man believed to be 55 year old Anthony Lawrence, in a vehicle in a rural location in North Yorkshire.'

'Mr Lawrence was wanted in relation to the murder of Shane Gilmer (30) and the attempted murder of his pregnant girlfriend Laura Sugden on Friday 12 January.'

'Since Friday evening we have been carrying out extensive enquiries into Mr Lawrence's whereabouts, which led to the location in North Yorkshire, upon where officers discovered a body.'

'We are being supported by North Yorkshire Police as part of our wider investigation.
