Big rise in the number of kids carrying knives in our region
Double the number of children were caught in possession of a knife last year - compared to 2013. Half of these incidents were in Hull.
Viking can exclusively reveal that the number of kids here in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire carrying knives DOUBLED last year.
16 people under the age of 16 were caught posessing a knife in 2015 - compared to just 8 two years before.
Figures we obtained from Humberside Police show that over the past five years more than 60 children, some as young as 12, have been found with a knife on them.
Nearly half of these incidents were in Hull.
Kayleigh Pepper's brother Rich was stabbed to death outside his east Hull home last year and is pleading with young people to think about the consequences.
"My brother was 6ft and he was about 18 stone. He had five full body blood transfusions, five, from one single stab wound.
"We all know that knives ruin lives and not just the ones carrying them but anybody else that comes into contact with them so why is it that we still ahve so many walking round with blades, it's just not acceptable.
"If any of these children who have knives in their pockets, I want to say that you don't need it. If you die as a result of carrying a knife, your families' life will be ruined forever and the only thing that keeps them going is the love and support of each other but no day is ever as beautiful as it once was.
"It goes back to the message that no child should ever have to identify and bury their own child. Just think about how you would feel if you lost someone you loved at the hands of somebody else and you have to live with that hate, guilt and anger for the rest of your life and it's not nice."
Later - we'll be speaking to the force to see what they're doing to tackle the problem.
