Beach Safety Campaign

Published 4th Jul 2015

We're being warned not to take any risks when visiting East Yorkshire's beaches during the summer holidays. From today - RNLI lifeguards will be patrolling beaches at Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea to help keep people safe. They'll also be delivering a series of beach safety messages. David Brant is from the charity and says incidents do tend to rise at this time of year,

"They've got to be wary. The biggest factor is a lot of people come down when it's really sunny - they've got be careful. So just look after yourself. If you do see someone who's in trouble call 999 and ask for the coastguard. Or if you're at a lifeguarded beach, go upto the lifeguard and explain the situation."

"It's going up to families people, adivising sun safety, water safety, inflatable safety. But unfortuntely we do have to conduct some rescues and do some first aid. So if you do come down look out for the red and yellow flags - that's where the lifeguards will be patrolling and looking after the beaches."
