Attempted murder arrest after crossbow discharged in Hull

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a crossbow was allegedly discharged in Hull.

A police guard remains in place after officers were called to attend a street off Princes Avenue yesterday evening.

Humberside Police said it received a call at approximately 10.40pm from a member of the public reporting that a man was in possession of a weapon on Victoria Avenue.

Officers were deployed to the area and upon attending a man was found to have discharged a crossbow at a property.

A 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, affray, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He remains in custody whilst officers remain in and around the area.

Detective Inspector Jason Gourley leading the investigation said: “Thankfully nobody was physically harmed however the occupants have understandably been left shaken by the events of yesterday evening.

“I understand an incident of this nature will naturally cause concern amongst the community however, as a part of our initial lines of enquiry, I would like to offer some reassurance those involved are known to each other.

“A scene guard remains in whilst officers conducting lines of enquiry, and we would encourage anyone who has any concerns to please come and speak to us.
