A generous nine-year-old from New Waltham has warmed the hearts of NSPCC staff in Grimsby by donating money that was a gift to him, to the children’s charity.
Henry Taylor was given some cash from his grandfather to mark his retirement, and he decided to donate £50 to his local NSPCC, a gesture matched by his older brother Archie and their parents Charlotte and Barry.
His mum said she was touched by Henry's decision and knew the £200 would go towards helping children and young people in the area when they need it most:
“We raised funds with a big family party a couple of years ago, but we’ve supported the NSPCC ever since I was at school. Henry and his brother Archie have always been aware of the charity and the great work it does.
“When the boys’ grandad Pete retired from the building trade, he gave the boys some money and within minutes, Henry said he wanted to give £50 to the NSPCC to help children in Grimsby. It was really nice for him to see the office and meet Lisa, but it’s made us really proud to know our children have been so thoughtful.”
Henry said:
“I know I’m really lucky, and I think it’s important to try and think about other people and be kind. If I have something that someone else might not have, it’s good not to be greedy, and to share it if I can. Why wouldn't you do that?”
Archie said:
“I liked what Henry said, and thought it would be a good idea to do the same.”
The NSPCC centre in Grimsby, is the charity’s local base for Together for Childhood - a partnership with the children’s charity, North East Lincolnshire Council, police, Children’s Public Health and community groups.
The partners work together to ensure local families get the help they need at the right time, and to prevent neglect and abuse at the earliest stages.
Lisa Smith - NSPCC strategic service manager in Grimsby – said the donation was thoughtful and most welcome:
“It’s such a lovely gesture by Henry, Archie and their parents.
“When they visited, we discussed Childhood Day and the work we do to support children, and how lovely it was for them to donate to us when we are asking others to think about children.
"We gave Henry and Archie pebble painting kits to create a design and then hide in their local park, so someone else could find them as another act of kindness.”
