2016 Tour de Yorkshire hailed a big success

The race officially got underway in Beverley.

The start of the Tour de Yorkshire in Beverley has been hailed a success.

The riders paraded around the town just before midday, before the official started from Beverley racecourse.

Thousands braved the wind and rain to see the riders off from the town.

Stage One also took in the likes of Cherry Burton, Market Weighton and finished in Settle around 4pm.

Tomorrow, Stage Two goes between Otley and Doncaster with Sunday's third and final leg going from Middlesborough and finishing in Scarborough.

Over a million people are expected to watch the spectacle over the three days and is expected to bring in millions for the local economy.
