15 year old charged with murder after 7 year old dies in York

North Yorkshire police say a girl who died in York on Monday is 7 year old Katie Rough

Police have named the young girl who sadly died in York yesterday evening (Monday 9 January 2017), as seven year old Katie Rough.

Katie’s family are devastated by this tragic event and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this extremely distressing time.

Police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area of Morrell Court, Belhouse Way, Osprey Close and Alness Drive between 3pm and 5pm on Monday 9 January 2017, and may have seen two girls, one aged 15-years-old and the other 7-years-old, to get in touch. North Yorkshire Police have given this update as a 15 year old girl is being questioned following the death of a 7 year old in York.

A force spokesman said: *Police were called shortly after 4.30pm on Monday January 9 to an address in Alness Drive in York. Officers attended and, upon visiting a scene nearby, they found a seven-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries.*

  • An ambulance attended and the girl was taken to York District Hospital, where she sadly died a short time later.*

Officers remain at the scene while the investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death of the girl continues.''
