In two months over 250 (251) fixed penalty notices for dropping litter have been handed out by enforcement officers in North Lincolnshire.

It's for offences such as throwing rubbish from a car and dropping cigarette ends during August and September.

Fines of £150 were given out in places like Scunthorpe and Ashby - while Keadby and Wroot were also targeted

North Lincolnshire Council says it spends more than a million pounds a year cleaning up other people's rubbish.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“While I applaud the work of our enforcement officers in helping keep our communities clean, the number of people dropping litter on the street is just not acceptable.

“We are determined to clean up North Lincolnshire and will keep on fining litter louts until we do.”

Hundreds of volunteers have joined in the fight to keep their communities clean and are carrying out regular litter picks in their local area.
