The 'True Detective' actor is set to play a wizard named Graves. The film is set almost 70 years before Harry and co even set foot at Hogwarts and follows the adventures of writer Newt Scamander, who will be played by Eddie Redmayne.
Farrell joins Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne, Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston and Ezra Miller in what is surely set to be one of the must-see movies of 2016.
The film is based on J.K Rowling's 2001 book of the same title and the author posted to Facebook: "Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world."
She continued: "The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry's gets under way."
The film is set for release in November 2016.
