Leicestershire Police have provided a full statement following reports of a collision involving a police car and three pedestrians, two of whom were children.

The collision happened in the West End area of Leicester, yesterday, shortly after a police pursuit was authorised just after 4.40pm.

The pursuit involved a car – a blue BMW – that had failed to stop for police, close to the junction of Narborough Road and Upperton Road. As the officer driving the police vehicle attempted to pursue the car the police vehicle collided with three pedestrians.

In an update issued this morning, Leicestershire Police confirmed that a woman in her 30s and two children aged 10 were assessed at the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The woman suffered a minor injury, while the children were uninjured. All have been discharged from hospital.

The police officer was uninjured.

The force said, in a statement,: "Officers are investigating the incident and ask anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward if they have not already spoken to police.

"The blue BMW that failed to stop made off from the area. Enquiries are ongoing in relation to this.

"Road closures were in place while the incident was dealt with but were reopened a few hours later."

Leicestershire Police have also confirmed that the incident was reviewed and that it was decided that the incident did not require a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
