University of Derby looking to address student's concerns about cost of living
Many about to start higher education are worried
As many students across the East Midlands fear they may struggle with the cost of living next term the University of Derby has been telling us how they're addressing issues for freshers.
More than 90 per cent of students across the UK are either somewhat or very worried about the crisis.
The Uni has told us rising costs will be on their minds ahead of them starting their courses.
We spoke to Professor Keith McLay from the University of Derby.
Not only have they been sitting exams but they're also entering a cost of living crisis
He told us: "We have a series of measures in place both academically and pastorally to provide that support."
He also outlined one of their initiatives to help out - a freshers wristband.
"If they come to the University they will have free access to a whole raft of social and academic activities to allow them to come in and get settled and find their feet at University."
"That's us responding to the cost of living crisis in that way."
"Not only have they been sitting exams and A levels but they're also entering a cost of living crisis."
He has this advice for anyone who's looking at going through the clearing system.
"Take a deep breath, be thoughtful and coherent but purposeful and call the clearing hotline who have a raft of advisers who'll talk you thought the experience of applying."
