A suspected WW2 device has been detonated in a field near Ilkeston.

Police say they were called to Langley Avenue in Cotmanhay around 6.40 pm on Sunday (17/03) to reports that a member of the public found the device on nearby grassland.

A number of homes were evacuated and a cordon was put in place, whilst the item was secured.

Members from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit of the Army were called to move the device to a field - before destroying it in a controlled explosion around 10.40pm.
