An estimated 30,000 people are expected to attend this weekend's Splendour Festival at Wollaton Park, with festival bosses saying it will "bigger" and better than ever.

Who's performing?

Madness, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and the Sugarbabes will be rocking the stage along with Nottingham’s very own Vicky McClure.

Her ‘Our Dementia Choir' began was part of a documentary where she set out to discover the extent of music's power in combatting dementia.

They performed at last year's Splendour festival and were asked to return for 2023.

Speaking to GEM106, she said: "why would you not get the dementia choir back on stage - they are just full of inspiration and hope and music."

The Line of Duty star said "I can't tell you how much love and support I feel - it's like getting a massive hug from the community - there will be nerves but we can all just enjoy the moment."

Also performing are the likes of Eurovision star Sam Ryder, The Kooks and Rudimental.

Supporting young talent

Opening up the main stage on both the Saturday and Sunday are the winners of the Future Sounds of Nottingham Competition.

Em and K.Ji will making their Splendour debuts on the main stage after winning over the crowd and judging panel of industry experts at the Rock City final last month.

Em said she was surprised to be nominated, let alone win.

She said: "It is phenomenal what people are doing for the independent music scene in Nottingham and we are just blessed to be a part of it."

KJI, the first rapper and South Asian artist to kick off the line up said he was "buzzing" to have the opportunity.

He said: "My music is all about fusing different cultures together and that is what Splendour is all about."

What else is on offer?

Trent Rockets, the team that play in The Hundred competition, will be returning, to give everyone the chance to test their cricket skills.

The Hundred sees eight city-based teams go up against each other in action-packed 100-ball cricket competition.

Both their men's and women's team will kick off the tournament at Trent Bridge home on the 1st August.

There is also a comedy stage, and the park will be littered with funfair rides, food and drink trucks and even a silent disco.

What about the weather?

The forecast is not looking good with heavy rain due over the weekend.

However, that won’t stop thousands of festival goers from enjoying themselves.

Vicky McClure said: "If you get wet, you get wet!

"We've done Splendour in the pouring rain before, we'll do it again. Make sure to bring your wellies and a raincoat and just enjoy it!"
