Police jail man after being found with £400k worth of cannabis
Shyqyri Asllani was sentenced to two years in prison
Nottinghamshire Police have helped to jail a man who was found to have £430,000 worth of cannabis in his possession.
Officers said that they had arrested 29-year-old Shyqyri Asllani after they had pulled him over on the A453 close to Ratcliffe-on-Soar on April 18th.
After being pulled over, Asllani immediately got out of the car and fled the scene, running across farmland in the hopes of getting away, but was soon brought down and detained.
It was later discovered that Shyqyri had fled the vehicle when the van he was driving was found to have 40 kilograms of cannabis inside.
The plants were placed in three large bags, having just been processed and in the midst of being supplied to smaller groups.
After being detained, Shyqyri admitted that he had driven the van, but was simply a courier in the county drugs line, being paid to drive the cannabis to another location to be moved on.
Facing a judge at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (August 8th), Asllani - of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply and driving without insurance.
He was sentenced by the judge to a total of two years in prison. A second man, 19-year-old Leonid Sade, of Alma Road in Enfield also pleaded guilty to possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply.
Sade, who had been the front passenger of the van when it was stopped by officers, was given a 15-month custodial sentence which would be suspended for two years.
Speaking on the incident, Detective Constable Sarah Kirk from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Asllani was initially pulled over because the van he was driving had been linked to a fuel theft.
"The speed of his exit, however, suggested something a lot more serious and our officers soon discovered what that was.
"This was a very large quantity of drugs and I am pleased they have now been taken off the streets."
