The family of a woman who was killed at her home in Nottinghamshire have spoken of their "irreparable" loss.

Rachel McDaid was found dead at her home on Nottingham Road in Eastwood just after 11am on Friday (April 19th).

An investigation was launched into her death soon after her discovery, with officers being led to arrest a man on suspicion of murder following enquiries.

The suspect, described as being a man in his 60s, currently remains in police custody as investigations are continuing.

McDaid's family offered a tribute to the woman, as her death has left them "truly devastated".

In a statement published through the police force, the family said: "We are heartbroken over the loss of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie and cousin.

"Rachel has been taken from us suddenly and we are unable to come to terms with the fact we will never see her beautiful face and smile again.

"As a family we were all so close, sharing jokes and precious time together, and the hole that has been left with the loss of Rachel is irreparable. We are truly devastated."

Detective Chief Inspector Clare Dean from Nottinghamshire Police offered the family their own tribute, saying that officers cannot begin to imagine the pain the family are going through.

"I’d like to express my sincere condolences to the family at this incredibly difficult time and reassure them that we are doing everything in our powers to bring them justice.

"We’ve arrested a suspect in connection with this incident, and they remain in custody where they’re currently being questioned.

"I’d once again like to stress that we believe this to be an isolated occurrence and that there is no wider risk to the public.”

Anyone who may have any information in regards to the case can still contact the force on 101, quoting incident reference number 231 on April 19th.
