Police appeal after mum with young child racially abused in Nottingham

Police are appealing for witnesses after a mum driving with her young child was surrounded by drunken football fans and racially abused in Nottingham city centre.

It happened shortly after the end of England v Germany Euro 2020 match on Tuesday 29 June.

The woman was driving on Talbot Street when she was blocked by a crowd of around 20 young people.

When she asked them to move she had abuse shouted at her, and at least one person was seen to climb onto the car. The victim was also filmed, and liquid believed to be alcohol was poured into the vehicle.

The woman wasn’t injured in the incident and phoned the police shortly afterwards.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cooper from Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was an absolutely disgraceful incident in which a young mother was abused and intimidated in the middle of our city in broad daylight.

“Nottinghamshire Police will never tolerate any form of racist abuse and we are determined to bring all those involved to justice.

“In this regard we would like to speak to the person pictured in this image, who we believe may be able to help us in our enquiries. We would also like to speak to anybody who witnessed this incident or who has any other information that may help us. We would particularly like to speak with anyone who has mobile phone footage of what happened.”
