Nottinghamshire Police say they are stepping up patrols to reassure the community as detectives continue to investigate a serious sexual assault in Nottingham.

The incident took place around 3am on Saturday when a young woman was assaulted in Victoria Park, Bath Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.

Officers are supporting the victim as the investigation team continues to pursue a number of lines of inquiry.

A cordon was put in place and patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide public reassurance.

Detective Sergeant Barry Haines, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“We know incidents like this cause great concern to our communities, and a team of detectives continues to work hard on the investigation.

“We have increased reassurance patrols in the area while our inquiries continue. If anyone has any concerns, we'd encourage them to speak to one of our officers.

“Every effort is being made to locate the person responsible and we do not believe there is a risk to the wider public.

“I’d like to thank people who have already come forward with information, but it is really important people continue to tell us anything which could help.”
