Parts of East Midlands hit by snow

Snow is causing some travel issues across the East Midlands today, with part of Derbyshire covered by an amber weather alert for snow and ice and the rest of the region covered by a yellow alert.

In Derbyshire some schools have shut early and roads have been closed due to snow or accidents, although the county council have since said some roads are now back open:

Derbyshire Fire Service and the County Council are urging people only to travel if 'absolutely necessary', particularly in the Peak District.

Trent Barton says some bus services are being affected:

The Environment Agency says some river levels are forecast to rise from the predicted rainfall and snowmelt, which could cause flooding of roads and farmland. The areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and roads including Willington, Barrow upon Trent, Swarkestone, Bargate Lane and the access roads to Willington Meadows, the Twyford Village access road, Church Lane at Barrow, and Ingleby Lane. They say they are closely monitoring the situation.

Rufford Abbey in Nottinghamshire posted on facebook to say it is closed for the day due to the snow:

Clumber Park says it is closing at 2.30pm due to the wintry conditions.
