Women's aid charity call on Nottingham men to support specialist services
Juno want 500 local men to pay £1 a month
A new campaign has launched by Nottingham based Women's Aid charity Juno which is calling for 500 men in the city to sign up to donate £1 a month to help support specialist women's services.
The charity say they're launching the #Notts500 campaign "as national soul-searching continues following the death of Sarah Everard".
Nottinghamshire consistently records a high rate of domestic abuse-related crimes than other areas in the East Midlands.
The 2020 Crime Survey for England and Wales estimated that over 117,000 women living in Nottingham had experienced abuse since the age of 16.
The Charities CEO Yasmin Reham said “Even as the CEO of a charity helping women who have been the victims of male violence, I believe #NotAllMen are abusers. I know there are many men out there who love their wives, their daughters, their sisters, and their mothers. Who believe in fairness and consent and the humanity of women.”
In a statement the charity said "We have traditionally received donations from women who have been subject to domestic abuse or know someone who has, but domestic abuse is everyone’s business and men in Nottingham have a role to play in challenging male violence against women. Staying silent is condoning abusive behaviour; we need men to stand alongside the women of Nottingham and help us reach a community standard of zero tolerance to domestic abuse"
