Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed they have pulled the body of a man from the River Trent in Nottingham.

The force were first alerted to reports of a man in the water on Saturday afternoon (July 20th).

Emergency services were called to the Wilford Toll Bridge on the Victoria Embankment of the river on 2:15pm.

Searches were carried out across the area and further down the river in the hopes of trying to find the man and rescue him from the water.

A "lengthy" search operation by the force's dive team was carried out, with added help from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Following their searches, the body of a 44-year-old man was found in the river and was retrieved before being taken away.

Speaking on the incident, Inspector Dan Buckle from Nottinghamshire Police paid tribute to the man and offered his sympathies to the man's loved ones.

"My thoughts are with this man’s family at this incredibly sad time. They are being supported by officers," he said in a statement.

"Members of the emergency services who took part in the search yesterday should be commended for their professionalism.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
