Police say they believe a suspicious package which led to multiple road closures this morning in Nottingham city centre may have been a battery pack for an electric scooter.
Explosive Ordinance teams carried out a controlled explosion on the device near the Market Square this morning, after police were first called at 4.30am.
Nottinghamshire Police say the item posed no risk to the public and have thanked them for their understanding.
Detective Inspector Lisa Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This incident caused significant disruption in the city this morning and we would like to thank the public for the patience and understanding shown while necessary investigation work was carried out.
“Although this item was found to pose no risk to the public, the person who discovered it did exactly the right thing by reporting their concerns to us.”
An investigation is ongoing.
