Minutes after Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper announced his 2023/2024 Premier League Squad, a Forest defender was handed a suspended five month ban.

Harry Tofollo was on the 25-man squad announced by the club this afternoon, as he was handed his punishment for breaching 375 betting rules.

Why had Tofollo been served a suspended ban?

Toffolo breached FA rules which ban players from placing bets or passing on information that could be used for betting.

The FA are yet to release full details but the offences were committed between 2014 and 2017, before he played for Nottingham Forest.

Toffolo won't be banned unless he commits another offence before the end of the 2025 season.

It contrasts to Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who was banned for eight months after admitting to 232 breaches of the FA's betting rules.

Unlike Toffolo, the ban was immediate and not suspended.

Toney was banned from training until 17 September and cannot play again until 17 January 2024.
