A 20-year-old man has been arrested by Nottinghamshire Police after being chased by officers on Friday morning (March 24) - and ended up in a garden wearing just his tracksuit bottoms.

This followed a report from the owners of a house in Balderton of a night-time burglary.

They were woken up in the early hours to the sound of loud bangs, and after looking out of the window of their house on Worthington Road, they quickly rang the police after believing someone was attempting to break in.

Nottinghamshire Police say at about 01:20 that morning, whilst attempting to stop the suspect who had been spotted trying to commit a night-time burglary, the victim was hit around the face, causing him to fall.

When officers attended the scene, they started to scout the area around the house until they finally spotted a man who ran off in an attempt to avoid the police.

Just 10 minutes later, a man was tracked down in a garden - wearing only tracksuit bottoms in a garden.

Other items of clothing were strewn close by.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of actual bodily harm and attempted burglary.

Police say he remains in custody as inquiries continue.

Detective Constable Andrew Brownless, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our criminal investigation department is carrying out a full investigation into this incident and are working hard to understand exactly what happened.

“This was a really nasty incident that left the victim needing urgent hospital treatment for injuries to his face and body.

“Burglary is a cruel and heartless act and we know the sheer impact it can have on a family, a community, and a person.

“I want to ask anyone who has any information, CCTV, or doorbell footage to please get in touch with us. Any information could really help us with our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 30 of 24 March 2023, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
