A man has been arrested following a fatal collision in Leicester Road, Anstey, yesterday morning (Saturday).

Police had been called to the area at 10.31am by East Midlands Ambulance Service who were in attendance at the collision which involved a black BMW car.

A man, in his 20s, who was travelling as a passenger in the car, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Another man who was travelling as a passenger in the vehicle was not reported to have suffered any serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was reported to have left the scene following the collision and an appeal was made by detectives yesterday to locate the driver. A man who is believed to have been the driver of the car has since contacted police.

The 22-year-old man, of Leicester, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop following a collision. He currently remains in police custody.

Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Thank you to everyone who has helped us so far, both at the time of the collision and contacting us with information following our appeal.

“We continue to provide support to the family of the man who has sadly lost his life and our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of the collision.”
