A man has been arrested after an air rifle was allegedly fired during an incident.

Police were called to an address in Gainsford Crescent, Bestwood, on Wednesday.

After attending the scene, a suspect began acting aggressively and three police officers are understood to have then been assaulted.

A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, firing an air weapon and assaulting an emergency worker.

He remains in police custody.

Sergeant Matthew Nandakumar, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

"We take all reports of firearms offences extremely seriously.

“Whether it’s an air or pellet gun, or indeed the real thing, there is absolutely no excuse for anyone to ever aim a firearm at another person.

“These devices can look just like lethal firearms and can inspire the same level of fear, so because of this, offenders will always be met with the same response from our officers.

“It should also go without saying but assaulting police officers and other emergency workers is completely unacceptable and will never be tolerated."
