The emergency services were called to a football pitch in the Chesterfield area of Derbyshire over the weekend after a child and man were reported to have fallen down a manhole. Firefighters had to rescue the 39 year old, but the child had already been pulled out by the time they got there.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service say this happened close to a football pitch off Back Lane in Newbold on Sunday 4th June 2023 at 09:39hrs.

Both the man and child were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. Officers say they made the area safe and advised the football club regarding the ongoing safety at the site.
