A Conservative MP in Leicestershire has revealed he underwent spinal surgery ahead of his party's conference.

Dr Luke Evans, who is the MP for Hinckley and Bosworth, said that he had suffered a slipped disc and had undergone an operation to fix the issue.

Taking to his Twitter account, Dr Luke shared photos from his hospital bed before putting on a suit, whilst continuing to wear a neck brace.

He explained in his post: "I know some you may have seen me out and about with a soft collar on and wondered what’s going on… well, 2 weeks ago, I had spinal surgery for a slipped disc in my neck.

"I am doing well and will be out and about at Party Conference over the next couple of days and in Parliament, but will have "the cone of shame" for a few more weeks!"

He finished his statement by thanking the staff of his local hospital for looking after him so well.

Dr Luke said that he would be attending the Conservative Party Conference, which takes place in Birmingham from Sunday (September 29th) to Wednesday (October 2nd).

Evans has been the MP for Hinckley and Bosworth since winning the seat in the 2019 general election and currently sits as the Shadow Minister for Culture, Media and Sport.
