Man found dead in Leicester

He was found walking away from the city on Belgrave Road - with what appears to be a head injury

An investigation has been launched after a man was found dead in Leicester city centre on Sunday 11th July.

Detected were called at 4.20am to find a man, believed to be in his 30s, lying in Belgrade Road, close to the junction with Belgrave Circle.

Paredemics attended to the man and decalred him dead at the scene.

He appeared to have suffered from a head injury.

Police are appealing for witnesses and have yet to establish a cause of death.

From enquiries carried out so far, it is believed the man had been walking away from the city, along Belgrave Road at the time.

Investigating officers are looking to speak to anyone who was in the area between 3am and 4.20am.

They have made an appeal to speak to a taxi driver in a blue Toyota Pruis who was in the area of Welford Place.

The driver stopped and spoke to officers at around 4.20am and mentioned seeing a man lying in the street.

Detective Sergeant Paul Vincent, from the force’s Complex Investigation Team, said: “Our investigation is very much in its early stages and we are treating this death as unexplained while we work to establish how the man died.

“I am urgently looking to find the taxi driver who spoke to officers and mentioned seeing a man lying in the street – he may have information that could prove very useful to our investigation.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone else in the area at the time. We know the area was busy in the early hours of the morning – particularly with taxis and people leaving the city after a night out.

"If you were in the area of Belgrave Road and Belgrave Circle between 3am and 4.20am and saw the man or have any information, please come forward.”
