Large fire in Mountsorrel in Leicestershire

Huge plumes of smoke can be seen for miles

A large fire has broken out in the Mountsorrel area of Leicestershire this morning.

Thick black smoke can be seen for miles around with locals saying it looks to be near the area around the quarry.

Leicestershire Fire Service tweeted to say they were getting a large number of calls and they were working with the police to close Wood Lane between Mountsorrel and Quorn.

A spokesperson told us: "We received the call at 6:31 this morning to a fire at Mountsorrel Quarry, Wood Lane.

In attendance are Birstall pump and ALP, Loughborough pump, TRV and water carrier, Western pump, Southern pump, Central ALP, Shepshed command support vehicle and Market Harborough Hose layer.

This is a commercial/ industrial fire consisting of 4 floors measuring approx 25m x 30m with the top 2 floors fully involved in fire.

There are no casualties at present."
