JAILED: Derbyshire man sentenced to four years for assaulting a baby
The 25 year old initially denied the assault 2019, claiming another child was responsible, but later admitted it in court
A man who violently assaulted a young baby has been jailed.
Justin Dainty, now aged 25, admitted causing the child serious head and internal injuries in November 2019.
Dainty, formerly known as Connor Fraser, violently grabbed the child by its face, and also shook it by its legs.
He initially claimed the injuries had been caused by another child and were as the result of accidents.
Extensive medical evidence, however, pointed to the assault being a deliberate act perpetrated by an adult.
After almost three years of denials he finally admitted to what he had done and pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday 12th September, Dainty, formerly of Hampden Street, Heanor, was jailed for four years.
Detective Sergeant Laura Clapham, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Dainty committed an appalling act of violence against a defenceless baby and is rightly beginning a lengthy prison sentence.
“By trying to blame another child he appeared to believe he would get away with what he had done.
“During the course of this very lengthy investigation we were able negate his account through detailed medical evidence. I am pleased to say the victim has made a good recovery.”
