Man taken to hospital with serious injuries in Ilkeston assault

Derbyshire Police have placed a cordon around the area for investigation

A man has been taken to hospital following a "serious assault" in Ilkeston on Sunday morning (June 1st).

Officers from Derbyshire Police were called to an incident taking place on Market Place in the town at around 2:10am.

When they arrived, they found that a man had suffered serious injuries - with paramedics giving him immediate treatment before taking him to hospital.

The victim's condition is not currently known following the attack. Officers remain in the area.

Derbyshire Police have confirmed that a cordon is in place at the scene while forensic investigations are underway.

The force added that while enquiries take place, the area is expected to be sealed off for some time - which could impact pedestrians.

Police are now urging anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the attack to get in touch as soon as possible.

Anyone who may have any information that could help officers is being asked to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 120 from June 1st.
