13 friends to cycle across the UK to raise money for Leicester hospitals in memory of friend
Ellis White was just 24-years-old when he died of Covid earlier this year
A group of friends will cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End in just 10 days to raise money for the Leicester hospitals which took care of their friend during his final days.
Ellis White died from Covid in February, he was just 24-years-old. The group hope to raise £20,000 for Leicester General Hospitals and Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Currently their fund raising efforts have surpassed £17,000 and their fundraising page can be found here.
The group said in a statement: "Following the loss of our friend Ellis White, we have decided that we want to do something to honour him whilst raising as much money as possible to support those who gave exceptional care to Ellis. Both the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospitals provided Ellis with outstanding care and we wish to show them our thanks. Following a kidney transplant in 2019, Ellis was on anti-rejection drugs putting him in the vulnerable category. He contracted Covid-19 in January and at the age of 24 sadly passed away on the 12th February 2021."
"Ellis was a loving, charismatic, remarkable friend and his infectious laugh would fill every room. He was loved dearly by his family, friends, colleagues and pretty much anyone else who had the privilege of knowing and meeting him. Ellis always wanted the best for all of his friends. He was selfless, thoughtful, supportive and encouraged us all to be the best we possibly can. He was a cherished member of our friendship group and - although we will always remember him - we want to ensure that we honour him in the best possible way that will make him proud. As a huge cycling fan, we cannot think of a better way to remember Ellis and keep his exceptional spirit alive."
The group will set off on their 954 mile journey on the 2nd August and hope to complete in 10 days.
