A former Nottingham primary school teacher has been jailed for repeatedly abusing two pupils in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Roger Thorne, aged 75, committed the offences at Scotholme Primary School in Hyson Green, over a five year period.

His victims came forward later in life, revealing to police that Thorne would contrive reasons to get them on their own before sexually abusing them.

One recalled how he would abuse her at her desk after she was made to sit near him.

Thorne was previously convicted of nine sexual offences in 2005, linked to another Nottingham school.

The pensioner, of Sturgeon Avenue in Clifton, denied the allegations but was found guilty of two offences at trial.

He was jailed for five and a half years yesterday (July 30) at Nottingham Crown Court.

Detective Sergeant Lee Kirk, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Thorne is a predatory sex offender who used his privileged position as a school teacher to abuse two young girls in his care.

“His actions represented an appalling abuse of trust and have had a significant impact on the lives of his victims.

“It is thanks to their courage and perseverance that Thorne has finally been brought to justice today and I would like to thank them both for bringing this abuse to our attention.

“As this case demonstrates it really doesn’t matter how long ago sexual abuse happened. What matters is that it happened at all.

“So if people come forward to us with historical allegations of this nature we will listen to them, we will investigate their complaints and we will do whatever it takes to get justice for them.”
